New Wineskins: Communicating good news in a changing culture
1021 Northeast Grand Avenue

“No one puts new wine into old wineskins: otherwise, the wine will burst the skins, and the wine is lost, and so are the skins: but one puts new wine into fresh wineskins.” (Mark 2:22)
The days of captive audiences and rapt attention to the church’s message are over. In the 21st century, our audiences include those whose first language is not English; people brought up without religious affiliation; and those whose attention has become a commodity for which we must compete. Church communicators face greater challenges than ever. What tools, what awareness, what skills are required to fulfill our calling, using language and tools that will connect in another language, whether Spanish, secular, or social media platform.
Seeing and being in Portland
For all those who might be coming early or staying in Portland after the conference is over,
Here are a couple of great websites to help plan your time in the city.
Welcome to the forum site for the Episcopal Communicators
Episcopal Communicators are committed to connection, within and beyond the church. We believe communication is a vital component to a healthy church at all levels, from the congregation to the diocese to the global church.
As a professional, self-supporting association, our goals are to:
- Strengthen the community
- Foster the development of communication expertise
- Serve as an advocate for the ministry of communications
- Provide a forum for discussion of communication issues
- Provide mutual support and fellowship
To these ends this publicly available discussion and help forum is here to provide resources for not only members of our group, but for other church communicators looking for answers to life’s persistent questions.
